SHADOW – an impossible hole in a playing card!
Over the years, Mickael Chatelain has created a long list of original visual effects – and with SHADOW, he is back with a genuine paradox that happens right in front of your spectators’ eyes.
You display an ordinary-looking playing card. In the centre of the back is a hole. Not a black circle or something that merely looks like a hole – your spectators can actually see straight through the card.
You turn the card over.
The hole is gone!
The face of the card is completely intact, with no hole whatsoever.
Turn it back again and the hole is there. You can see through it.
Turn it over – no hole.
It simply makes no sense.
SHADOW combines several magical principles into one extremely visual illusion. There are no flaps, no sleight of hand and no suspicious moment to hide. The effect can be performed close-up, right under your spectators’ noses.
Around 10 years ago, Chatelain created quite a stir at the Blackpool Magic Convention with PARADOX CARD, an effect that also received top marks and was one of our favorites to show in the magic shop. SHADOW plays with the same wonderfully impossible kind of visual paradox: you know exactly what you are looking at – and yet it simply cannot be true.
