On the table is a large wooden board numbered from 1 to 9. You take nine sticks and insert them through the holes beneath each number so that they protrude equally on both sides. Everything can be shown clearly from both sides before and after the sticks are inserted.
Next, you show a small gift bag and place a prize inside (could be EUR 500, a gift card, car keys - or anything else small). You explain that you will secretly hang this bag on one of the sticks at the back of the board. Once you’ve done so, you tell the audience they now have eight chances to win the contents of the bag—simply by choosing the correct stick. But the outcome will only be revealed at the very end. If they pick the stick with the bag and it falls off, they win!
The spectators then name eight numbers one by one. Each time, you fairly and openly remove the corresponding stick from the board—no suspicious moves. Eventually, only one stick remains. When the board is turned around (this can even be done by a spectator), the gift bag is seen hanging from the remaining stick! Unfortunately for the spectators, no prize this time.
This routine is completely self-contained with a new interesting secret and easy to perform. Both the board and the sticks are fully examinable and involve no secret gimmicks.
