A delightful, visual children's magic routine with plenty of opportunities for laughter, audience participation and a surprising finale!
Spot the Difference was created in collaboration between Gary Dunn and Lee Alex for Practical Magic in England and launched at the TRIX children's entertainers' convention in 2026. Inspired by Billy Day's classic Spot the Dog, with kind permission from Ian Davis, this new version brings the routine up to date with a lovely Blendo-style finale.
The magician displays a red bag and their favourite bow tie, which happens to be completely black. The bow tie goes into the bag, the children say a magic word, and perhaps a few white paper confetti circles are sprinkled over the bag. When the bow tie is removed, it is suddenly covered in white spots!
Of course, the children know exactly what's going on. There must be another bow tie hidden inside the bag! But the magician turns the bag inside out, showing its completely black interior.
The spotted bow tie goes back into the bag, and after another magic word, it comes out completely black again. But now something else has happened: the inside of the bag is suddenly covered in white spots!
The magician starts counting the spots, only to discover, much to their horror, that one is missing! Where could it possibly have gone?
After a little confusion and some help from the children, it's time for the big finale. The red bag suddenly transforms into a large silk featuring an adorable Dalmatian puppy – the missing Spot!
Spot the Difference is a well-structured children's routine with a fun storyline, several magical surprises and a finale that brings everything together. There is plenty of room for audience interaction, comedy and your own personal touches.
Beautifully made and comes with instruction both in print and video.
