A solid metal bolt passes straight through a box containing an entire deck. Yet only one card has a hole in it – the spectator's freely chosen card! Rob Bromley's ingenious 1995 mystery returns in a beautifully handcrafted edition from Alakazam Magic. Available from Pegani with either blue- or red-backed Bicycle Playing Cards.
A classic card mystery by Rob Bromley, now re-released by our friends at Alakazam Magic.
Rob Bromley was known for his ingenious, precision-made card gimmicks. Over the decades, he developed a range of original magic effects, and his work actually helped lay the foundations for Alakazam Magic. Together, they released effects such as The Extractor and Simplex Monte.
In the early 2020s, Alakazam acquired the rights to Bromley's creations. Following his untimely passing, the search began for craftspeople with the exceptional skills needed to recreate his intricate designs. Thankfully, they succeeded, and we're delighted to present this little masterpiece: The Deck Penetration.
The Effect
You introduce a small box, slightly larger than a standard deck of playing cards. A solid metal bolt runs straight through the box, secured with a nut.
You explain that the box contains a prediction: a single playing card with a hole through it.
A spectator freely selects a card and places it face down on the table.
You unscrew the nut, remove the bolt and hand both out for examination.
When you shake the box, everyone can clearly hear that there's an entire deck of cards inside!
You lift the lid and remove the deck. Amazingly, every single card is completely intact, without a single hole, even though the metal bolt has just passed straight through them.
You spread the cards and discover just one card in the middle of the deck with a hole through it ... And of course, it's the exact card the spectator selected!
A Special Piece of Craftsmanship
This is no ordinary gimmick. Each deck is carefully handcrafted, and this process alone takes approximately two hours. We offer it with Bicycle Playing Cards - either with red or blue back.
The box has also been faithfully recreated, with an elegant matte black, leather-textured finish.
The Deck Penetration is both a fascinating magic effect and a lovely collector's item for those who appreciate clever engineering and fine craftsmanship.
We're delighted to be able to offer one of Rob Bromley's original card mysteries once again – more than 30 years after it first saw the light of day. The time-consuming production process means we can only obtain small batches at a time. So if this looks like something for you, now is a good time to get your hands on one.
